Наша чартерная школа была создана, как ответ на нужды общины/ родителей и с самого начала очень серьезно относится к текущим нуждам и запросам родителей. As the school year comes to a close, our minds and hearts are filled to the brim. It’s been a great year! What a school! Together we’ve learned much and shared experiences that will long remain with us in the years to come. The strength of our community and wholehearted passion to make our school a wonderful place of learning for our children primarily but for all of us makes Community Outreach Academy truly a special place. Special thanks to all of you who have contributed in ways small, large, and unimaginable!

We have many active parents/volunteers in our school and we highly appreciate all of their involvement and dedication. On May 8, 2018, delicious lunch and gifts of appreciation were provided for them. We really appreciate all of our parent volunteers and feel so grateful to have them as a part of Community Outreach Academy. Mariya Fatullayeva volunteered more than 300 hours this school year! I had the wonderful privilege to be one of the judges for the Spelling Bee this year, so I had a front row seat to all the excitement! The entire event was a great success, but a few things stood out to me. I loved being able to watch the competing students in the spotlight and see their wheels turning - some of them would pause for quite a while… and just when you’d think they might be done, they’d come out with every letter in the right order!

We are having a great year of learning at the Community Outreach Academy! Every day is filled with excitement and new discoveries. It is a joy to have such bright scholars and supportive parents as part of our school’s community. Our school takes both academics and discipline very seriously as we strive to support the growth of responsible citizens in our society.
This is my tenth year with COA. As a site manager, I get to spend a big part of my day with the students and teachers.
Each child is different and requires a different approach; there- fore, as a team of educators we do our best to ensure that all students have an opportunity to learn to the best of their abilities.

Community Outreach Academy takes student attendance very seriously. We are very pleased with our student attendance levels and are grateful that our parents take this area of education very responsibly. We are nearing the time of year when some families may consider going on vacations, such as trips to Mexico, Hawaii, cruises, etc., and are forced to miss school. It is the school’s responsibility to inform our parents about the laws of school attendance in California. Below are the laws that relate to school attendance and the consequences students and parents may face in the events of missing too many days or hours of school without a valid reason.

COA Elementary will only offer INDEPENDENT STUDY for students in extreme situations such as:
► Student is scheduled for Medical or Dental Surgery (documentation from doctor required).
► Student has a severe Medical condition that requires an extended absence (documentation from doctor required).
► Student needs to attend a funeral of a close family member out of town or state (provide written statement/documentation).

In November / 2017, COA held an annual Parent Workshop dedicated to educating and informing parents on the report cards, assessments, awards, school app, Gradelink, and other tools that are used by School to measure the students’ academic progress. It was a great hands-on practical experience training for all parents.
On behalf of all parents at the COA School Site Council, we would like to encourage all parents to attend these wellprepared, very informative workshops that are held to help both you and your students. The COA Administration and Staff Work very hard and put a great amount of effort to make these workshops very relevant and geared towards our needs; staff is ready to answer any questions you might have - they are there to support you.
В ноябре 2017 года в школе COA проходил ежегодный родительский семинар, посвященный образованию и предоставляющий информацию родителям о табелях успеваемости студентов, оценках, наградах, школьных компьютерных программах, Gradelink и других. Это был отличный практический семинар для всех родителей.
От имени родителей, являющихся членами Совета школы, мы хотели бы вдохновить всех наших родителей посещать эти продуктивные и профессионально подготовленные информационные семинары. We were excited to host our Annual Math Competition during the month of January! This year, we decided to do it during school hours; we wanted to have as many students in attendance as possible, so they can all root for their classmates as well as get inspired to practice their math skills and participate in next year’s competition. One student from each class in grades two through six was chosen to participate based on their math scores and their ability to solve problems quickly. The competition was exciting for all students involved as the problems the competitors were giv- en were also displayed on the screen behind them for the audience to try solve from their seats. Thank you to the many parents who came during school hours to watch their children participate. We know it was a sacrifice to take time from your busy schedules, but we also know that it meant the world for you children to have you there! Thank you! Congratulations to all the participants for being chosen to compete and congratulations to all the winners of this year’s Math Competition! We hope to see some of you back again next year along with some new faces as well!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! Though it is difficult to believe, the holiday season is already upon us. There seems to be no escaping the Christmas music and holiday displays in every store and business. I abso lutely love this holiday season! It is a time that we spend reflecting upon many blessings that we have in our lives. This is also a season of giving and teaching our children how to show compassion and generosity for others. With your generous support, we were able to collect over 1,900 pounds of canned foods and donate it to the North Highlands Christian Food Ministry.
Радостного Рождества и счастливых праздников! Xотя трудно в это поверить, но праздничный сезон уже почти наступил. Во всех магазинах и офисах играет Рождественская музыка и выставляются праздничные декорации. Я очень люблю этот период года! Это время для размышлений о многих благословениях, которые мы имеем в своей жизни. Это также время, когда мы на собственном примере можем научить наших детей благотворительности, проявляя сострадание и щедрость к другим. В этом праздничном сезоне, благодаря вашей/родительской щедрой поддержке, мы смогли собрать более 1900 фунтов консервированных продуктов и пожертвовать их для North Highlands Christian Food Ministry. Кроме этого, совместно с организацией “Сердце ребенка” мы собираем игрушки для нуждающихся детей, которые живут в странах третьего мира. Каждый год мы собираем сотни мягких игрушек, рюкзаков, курточек и одеял для бедных детей. Большое спасибо всем нашим родителям за пожертвования! Участвуя в этих благотворительных проектах, наши ученики учатся заботиться о других, а также начинают больше ценить то, что имеют.
At COA we have many interventions in place to help students who need additional support in the classroom. Оne intervention is an SST meeting. This is a meeting where a team meets with parents regarding their student. In this meeting the team discusses the student and different ways their stu- dent can be supported.
В школе COA мы используем различные методы/ программы для предоставления дополнительной поддержки тем студентам, которые нуждаются в помощи; один из них - это совещание SST. SST– это собрания, на которых группа учителей/специалистов встречается с родителями относительно учебы их ребенка/студента. На этих собраниях команда сотрудников школы обсуждает успехи студента, а также варианты предоставления ребенку помощи, если он/она в них нуждается.
It is important for every modern artist to be able to transfer the result of his or her artistic talent not only on paper or canvas, but also onto a digital screen. For that reason, this year the Art Club in the After School Program has decided to take their drawing to digital tablets. This type of art is called Digital Art. Drawing on a tablet is not the same as drawing on paper, of course, but the children in the Art Club enjoy this new method of drawing.
Для каждого современного художника важно переносить результаты своего таланта не только на бумагу, но и на экран компьютера. Поэтому, в этом учебном году, в Art Club / After School Program, мы начали активно рисовать на графическом планшете. Такой вид рисования называется Digital Art.
My name is Kate Rossle, and I am a teacher at Community Outreach Academy. I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology from Sacramento State University in 2015, and recently, I received a Master’s Degree in Teacher Leadership. I have been working at COA for the past seven years, and three of those years, as a physical education teacher. Currently, I am the lead teacher in my department.
