My name is Albert Frankel. I love working here at COA with my fellow educators, Administrators, and most especially, the students and families of COA. I graduated with High Honors from California State University San Marcos with a Bachelor’s Degree in History. While there, I earned a Single Subject Teaching Credential in History, as well as a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. This has given me the tools to not only teach general education of all subjects, but the concentrated instruction that individual subjects require. My love of teaching was inspired by my father, who was also a teacher, and some wonderful teachers I had growing up. My goal is to have that same impact on my students. My other job is being a husband and father. My wife, Heather, as well as my three children, Michael, Spencer, and Sadie help to keep me focused and excited to be a teacher. In my free time I like to read and go camping with my family and friends.

Whatever it takes, our kids are worth it!

Shari Dawson

Shari Dawson 2nd Grade Teacher COA Elementary 2

Hello! My name is Shari Dawson. It is my privilege to be teaching here at COA since 2017. I graduated from California State University Sacramento in 2012 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Child Development and a minor in Counseling.  While debating whether to become a teacher in Special or General Education, I spent a year working as a para educator in special education and then 2 years working with English Language Learners. Obviously I am here in 2nd grade and I feel like it is a perfect fit! It is exciting to work with 2nd grade students and their families. I love this team of amazing 2nd grade teachers. COA is a wonderful place to be.

Mark Pitcher

Mark Pitcher 6th Grade Teacher COA ElementaryHi, I am Mark Pitcher and I have been teaching with COA for 7 years now, 4 of them in third grade. I really love the challenges and rewards offered by teaching. Helping students to learn something new and to realize, "Yes, I can do this!" is the best part of being in my profession. Math is my favorite subject to teach but I value all the subjects and wish I had more time for art. In addition to teaching, I have a wonderful wife and two children that I love to spend time with.

Angelina Cole

Angelina Cole 5th Grade Teacher COA Elementary

Hello, my name is Angie Cole. I was born and raised in Sacramento, and I've been blessed to have worked at COA Elementary for the last 6 years! I went to high school at CK McClatchy, and went on to get my B.A. and teaching credential from CSU Sacramento in December of 2011. I have always loved working with kids and seeing that “light bulb” moment, when they finally understand a new concept, or master a skill they’ve been working really hard on. My favorite part of working with 5th grade is their ability to work independently, as well as their hilarious sense of humor.  I love watching many different movies, playing board games, or taking care of my two cats, Buddy and Beans.  I also LOVE to travel, and most summers you can find me traveling all over the world.

Svetlana Kurdoglo

Svetlana Kurdoglo 5th Grade Teacher COA ElementaryI was born on a cold wintery night on March 3, in Moldova. As a middle child I obeyed my parents, and I always tried my best. Life was simple, joyful and pure. However, it was interrupted when my family decided to immigrated to the United States. As an adolescent it was difficult to adjust to the new customs and culture of the Americans. With hard work and effort, I assimilated to the American customs, and I learned the language; however, my core values remained unchanged. I went to Junior High, and then to Valley High School. As a senior in high school, I went to Ukraine on a missionary trip. This trip has shaped my career path. When I came back, I knew exactly who I wanted to become – a teacher. After five years of intense studying at the California State University in Sacramento, I acquired my Bachelor's Degree and my Credential. At the same time, I married my wonderful husband, and I had two amazing children; Nelly who is four, and Eugene who is turning one. As a teacher, I take everyday as a new clean slate. It is an adventure and a process. Everyday I teach based on a Chinese philosophy "When I hear, I forget; when I see, I remember, and when I do, I know." As a class we learn together, have fun together, and most importantly we grow together.
