Roman Prishlyak, Lead Teacher

012 774A0047My name is Roman Prishlyak and I'm so excited to be working at this amazing school! This will be my 4th year teaching at COA. Teaching is more than a job for me - it is truly a passion! I love learning and I hope to instill the same passion in my students!  I graduated from Sacramento State University with a B.A. in Liberal Studies and have obtained my Teaching Credential from National University. I have also studied at Sierra College where I obtained an A.A. degree in Elementary Education and an A.S. degree in Photography. Furthermore, I have also worked for the San Juan Unified School District and for Twin Rivers Unified School District. While working for San Juan Unified, I had the opportunity of being a Child Development Assistant. During my two years with Twin Rivers Unified, I had the privilege of working as a Substitute Teacher at various schools. When I am not teaching, I am traveling the coast of California, spending time in the mountains, or relaxing at a lake with my wife and our two children.

Caleb Meyer

Hello! My name is Caleb Meyer and this is my fourth year teaching 4th grade at Community Outreach Academy. I graduated from California State University, Chico with a B.A. in Liberal Studies with an area of concentration in Mathematics. I stayed at Chico State to obtain my teaching credential. I am from a large family and am the oldest of 5 children. When I am not at work, you can find me running, partner dancing, working out, drinking coffee, or reading my favorite comic series, Calvin and Hobbes. My favorite part of teaching is building a connection with students and teaching them to love themselves and connect with others around them. My teaching philosophy is closest to the practices of Positive Discipline and using the Love and Logic approach, both of which put power in the hands of the students by giving them choices and opportunities to think for themselves. Students get to experience the joy of success that comes with good decisions and the responsibility that comes with making the wrong ones. I love COA because of the supportive administration team, the chances we have to improve at our practice, and the school’s chosen classroom management model, Capturing Kids’ Hearts. I am excited to work with you and your student this year!

Teaching is a family tradition. My grandmother, mother, father, husband and I are teachers! In addition, my niece and son are teachers! Lifelong learning is a passion for us. We enjoy travelling and reading.   I grew up in the mountains about an hour from here. My family was very involved in the community so I am pleased to have found a school that values community involvement and moral values. My daughter Beth, is a personal clothing consultant.  Our family enjoys camping, kayaking, hiking, and attending church. We have three cats, a dog and fish. Having children of my own, I am sensitive to the needs of working moms.

I have taught since 1990 which included Kindergarten, 2nd Grade, 3r Grade, 4th Grade, 6th Grade, and English and History at the middle school level.  I have enjoyed the changes and challenges. However, I am thrilled to have 4th Grade again. I am energetic, fun, and committed to providing an enriching learning environment for each of my students. I set up my classroom to be supportive, safe, and active.
