Laura Ward, Lead Teacher

Laura Ward 6th Grade Teacher COA ElementaryTeaching has always been a part of my life. As a young child, I played "Teacher" with my stuffed animals and spent summers in my father's 6th grade classroom as he prepared for the school year.  For a while it even mixed with my love of culture, music, and dance. I taught folklorico (Mexican folk dance) to children in schools and for a non-profit organization. In 2015 I received my Multiple Subject Credential through California State University: Sacramento. It has been an amazing adventure to teach at Community Outreach Academy. I am looking forward to continuing to capture the hearts of students, seeing them grow academically, and helping them to become the best people that they can be.

Hello, my name is Nicole Miller, and I’m teaching 6th grade Math and Science.  This is my sixth year teaching at COA, but my eighth teaching 6th grade.  I earned my bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and Education from the University of California, Davis, and then my teaching credential from California State University, Sacramento.  I grew up around teachers and have wanted to teach since I myself was in 6th grade.  I love teaching; it is my passion in life, and I spend most of my free time trying to become a better teacher.  6th grade is one of my favorite ages because of the humor and sophistication and independence of the students at this grade level.  Math is my favorite subject, but I also love writing!  When I’m not teaching, I like to play with my daughters, play video games with my husband, or make handmade soap!
