Katherina Zervas, Lead Teacher

This is my third year at COA, and I feel very fortunate to be at this school! The school administration and the families have been very welcoming! I have taught English to English Language Learners in Greece and have taught English privately in America. Both of my parents are from Greece, and I am fluent in Greek. Previously, I taught at a Montessori Charter School and was the Lead Teacher in grades 4, 5, and 6. My educational background is: Masters of Arts in Teacher Education, California Teaching Credential in Grades K-12, Montessori Certificate in Grades 1-6, Bachelors of Arts in History, Minor in Anthropology, and an English Language Learner Authorization. My family life consists of my extended Greek Family, my two wonderful daughters, and two cute dogs! I love jogging, baking, and reading a book on Ancient History or the Classics.

Hello, my name is Nicole Miller, and I’m teaching 6th grade Math and Science.  This is my fourth year teaching at COA, but my sixth teaching 6th grade.  I earned my bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and Education from the University of California, Davis, and then my teaching credential from California State University, Sacramento.  I grew up around teachers and have wanted to teach since I myself was is 6th grade.  I love teaching; it is my passion in life, and I spend most of my free time trying to become a better teacher.  6th grade is one of my favorite ages because of the humor and sophistication and independence of the students at this grade level.  Math is my favorite subject, but I also love writing!  When I’m not teaching, I am taking care of my beautiful daughter, Ava, or watching TV with my husband and cat!

Laura Ward

Laura Ward 6th Grade Teacher COA Elementary

Teaching has always been a part of my life. As a young child, I played "Teacher" with my stuffed animals and spent summers in my father's 6th grade classroom as he prepared for the school year.  For a while it even mixed with my love of culture, music, and dance. I taught folklorico (Mexican folk dance) to children in schools and for a non-profit organization. In 2015 I received my Multiple Subject Credential through California State University: Sacramento. It has been an amazing adventure to teach at Community Outreach Academy. I am looking forward to continuing to capture the hearts of students, seeing them grow academically, and helping them to become the best people that they can be.

Mark Pitcher

Mark Pitcher 6th Grade Teacher COA ElementaryHi, I am Mark Pitcher and I have been teaching with COA for 7 years now, 4 of them in third grade. I really love the challenges and rewards offered by teaching. Helping students to learn something new and to realize, "Yes, I can do this!" is the best part of being in my profession. Math is my favorite subject to teach but I value all the subjects and wish I had more time for art. In addition to teaching, I have a wonderful wife and two children that I love to spend time with.
