Dear COA Elementary Parents,

Dear COA Elementary Parents,

As Campus Principal of COA Elementary, it is my pleasure to welcome you back for the 2021-2022 school year. We are very excited to have students begin the year in their classrooms. We look forward to having the school filled with laughter, smiles, and enthusiasm for learning. It is the mission of COA Elementary to make sure every child is welcomed, supported, and makes educational gains. As we come back from the last two years of non-traditional learning, we plan to focus on closing the learning gap, as well as building confidence in our students.

At COA Elementary, we have wonderful teachers who spend many hours planning lessons that are rigorous, and engage students in learning. Our teachers utilize the research-based curriculum, best practices, and analyzing data to determine current skill levels and set goals for growth and improvement. Teachers spent their last week of summer in many professional development sessions covering the aforementioned topics. We, at COA Elementary, believe that all students should leave their current grade level prepared and ready for the next year.

I am also thrilled to announce that Larissa Gonchar is now the director of COA Elementary School and COA Middle School. Dr. Tanya Kisel and I are now Campus Principals of COA Elementary and COA Middle. I am honored to be leading COA Elementary with Mrs. Gonchar and my new Vice Principal, Nicole Strobel. As we prepare to start the 2021-2022 school year, I wanted to inform and update you on a few things.

COVID Regulations: As of right now, our current CDC guidelines state ALL students, staff, and visitors to campus, are required to wear a mask while indoors. Masks are currently optional outdoors during recess and PE. Please be advised that our COVID Safety Regulations may change before the start of school and throughout the school year as the CDC continues to monitor COVID cases. We will keep you posted on any changes.

Kindergarten Orientation - Meet your teacher, Tuesday, August 10, from 2:00pm-3:00pm, 5800 Skvarla Ave, McClellan CA 95652.

Back to School Night will be held on August 26th. I would like to invite you all to:

As you all may recall, we are revamping and expanding our Russian Language department to World Language which will include Spanish. In April 2021, we sent a survey to see which languages you would like your child to have an option of and Spanish was the clear choice over French. We are continuing to work on finding a Spanish Language teacher who can help launch this program. Since we currently do not have this position filled, all students will start in Russian Language class. We will send out a survey within the first few weeks of school to determine which students will be moved to Spanish Language class and which will stay in Russian Language class.

Once again, I would like to say welcome back and it is going to be a great school year. I look forward to seeing you all August 11, 2021.

Michael Serdi,
COA Elementary Campus Principal
